File Storage

What to do with your Data?

On Premis VS Cloud? A key question people are asking.

Alka’s Answer:

It all depends on how your company operates and uses their system. We treat each customer individually and will assess what will work best to meet your needs. In some cases Cloud Storage is great, for others however on-premise with a cloud backup works much better.

Cloud VS Local Storage

First of all you need to consider the below questions which will ultimatley decide which option to go for between cloud and local storage.

  • How much data do you have?
  • How many people need to access the data?
  • Could more than one person try to access the file at the same time?
  • What type of data do you have?
  • Do you have a database?
  • What is your budget?

While cloud storage is the rave at the moment and is great for working anywhere there are some drawbacks when running multiple users through a cloud storage facility.

Cloud stroage offers you the ability to store your data on someone elses server and access it where ever you are. Normally you have a folder on your PC which the cloud server syncronises too. This syncs evertime there is a change and is great for using mulitiple devices.

It also enables you to share files easily via a weblink but make them secure with a password and even an expiray date. You can also be notified when the file has been downloaded.

Our unlimited storage packaged makes us one of best in the market compared with Dropbox Business and Google Drive.

However if you have multiple users trying to access the same files , you are using large files such as images and /or you are using a database then cloud storage may not be fit for purpose and a local stored with VPN access may be more suitiable so that you can still access it from anywhere but is stored on a device in your office.

Local storage is when there is a HDD onsite where data is physically stored.

The great thing about local storeage is it doesnt rely on an internet connection to work. As long as you are connected to your network or USB HDD you have access to your data.

If you are using a database, have multiple users or large files then a local sotrage is for you.

We would reccomend using a Cloud backup which means your data backed up offsite incase the local hardware fails. You get to choose how often to backup your data; either instantly, hourly, daily, weekly or monthly.
